Adrian de Krom: founder and president of national polymer, has worked in the field of Polymer Science for the past 20 years. Over the course of his career, he has worked for General Electric, Day-Glo Color Corporation (NALCO Chemical), Master Builders (BASF), Avery Dennison, Chemsultants, and NSL Analytical. He has developed Adhesives, Paints, Coatings, Inks, Composites, Elastomers, and Lubricants. He has experience in polymer synthesis and scale-up. Adrian earned his M.S. in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Akron.
John Waters PhD: Dr. Waters holds the position of V.P. of Technology He has over 30 years experience in leading an R&D team consisting of chemists with degrees ranging from BS to PhD levels. His team is responsible for organic synthesis, polymer synthesis, analytical chemistry and characterization. John has a PhD from Case Western Reserve University in Macromolecular Science.
Dan has over 25 years’ experience in the coating industry. He is Director of Operations and as such is responsible for profitable production operations. In addition to his in-depth knowledge of coating technology, Dan has extensive experience in leading engineering and design projects, R&D and product
development. He has successfully built and installed coaters, slitters, and lab equipment and a variety of mixing technology. Dan has been successful in helping several companies with start-up and operations. Dan is a co-owner of national polymer.
Charles Sarson: has decades of experience in the field of Engineering. He received his Bachelor of Science and Engineering Degree from Lehigh University, and his Masters of Science from Case Western Reserve University. He also has a Green Belt in Six Sigma from Eaton Aerospace. Over the years he has held many positions at a variety of companies including Senior Product Engineer, Product Engineer, and Product Development Manager. He holds numerous patents and has served as a voting member of CSA and NFPA/ISO standards committees.
Sue Mecham PhD: Dr. Mecham has approximately 15 years of experience in the synthesis and characterization of polymeric systems. She earned her PhD in Polymer Chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1997. She worked as a Professor at several universities as well as holding a Director position at Polymer Solutions Incorporated, managing a team of highly skilled analytical chemists specializing in polymer analysis and characterization, including reverse engineering.
Ben Curatolo PhD.: Dr. Curatolo specializes in the formulation of UV curable coatings for high performance applications. Ben has a Comprehensive Chemistry Degree from John Carroll University and a PhD. in Polymer Science from The University of Akron. Ben has over 25 years of leadership experience in technology and product innovation, development and commercialization working with Fortune 500 as well as major corporations in the aerospace industries as well as the U.S Military and NASA. He holds numerous patents in the field of UV curable coatings.
John Heaton: John has over 20 years experience in extrusion and printing related technology. He is experienced with Blown Film, Cast Film, MDO, Biax Orientation, Injection Molding, Blow Molding, Package Converting and Filling, Printing Technologies, Lamination and Metalizing. He very familiar with the testing of these materials and runs an ASTM Testing Lab. He has a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Akron.
Larry Lince: Larry has a degree in Paper Science and has worked for over 30 years in product development with a focus on Paper technology. He worked for nearly 20 years for a Fortune 500 manufacturer of pressure-sensitive adhesive products, especially paper based PSA laminates. In this role he worked extensively with paper manufacturers. He has extensive new product development expertise, as well as expertise in quality control and process engineering. His strengths include paper manufacturing, product development, and project management.
John Gooch: John has over 40 years experience in the flexible calendered vinyl industry, in both Technical and Commercial roles. His last position was as the Director of Sales and Marketing for Vinyls for the PSA Market for the American Renolit Corporation. He spent the last 25 years developing the calendered vinyl film business for the Graphics market in Europe and the U.S. His extensive experience includes high gloss opaque and translucent vinyl films, print feedstock and overlaminating films for digital printing. John is a Chartered Chemist (Royal Institute of Chemistry, UK) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK.
Kushal Baid PhD.: Dr. Baid has over 25 years of leadership experience in technology and product innovation, development and commercialization working with Fortune 500 as well as pre-IPO technology companies in plastics, paper and coating industries. He is a co-inventor on several patents in the areas of in-mold labeling, digital printing and outdoor durable polyolefin films. Kushal earned his doctorate in Chemical Engineering at University of Delaware.
Caryl Sherman: has worked in the paint and coatings market for more than 40 years, with the first 12 years of her career in research and development. She developed a line of metal oxide pigments and has patents in the micro-encapsulation of pigments. She has worked for Ferro, American Cyanamid, Huber, Troy and EPSCCA, and has been involved with colorants, biocides, additives, polymers, monomers and fillers. As a result, she has extensive knowledge in formulating coatings. Caryl holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Biology from Notre Dame.
Richard Katona: has over 40 years experience in the (PVC) vinyl industry. His focus has always been in the area of formulations. He held chemist positions at many companies producing vinyl products, and has extensive experience in vinyl compounding and processing. Dick spent over 20 years at Avery Dennison developing vinyl films for the graphics and reflective markets.
William Stofey: has almost 50 years of experience in all aspects of lubrication technology. He has in-depth experience in the formulation of lubricants for transportation, metalworking, and fluid power applications. He also has a thorough knowledge of lubricant additives; including polymeric viscosity improvers and tackifiers, organometallic anti-wear additives, friction modifiers, and others. He pioneered novel filtration processes for the reclamation of high viscosity drawing lubricants. Bill began his career at Lubrizol and later founded American Ultra Specialties, an oil reclamation company dedicated to high quality reclaimed products and “green” technology. Bill holds a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering.
Steven Hannah: has 25 years experience in the development and scale-up of adhesives, sealants and coatings. He has extensive experience in single and multi-component urethane, silicone, epoxy, and acrylic formulations. He has formulated moisture cured silicone (RTV) systems as well as moisture cured urethane systems.
Hannah Overberger: is our Senior Lab Technician. She supports project work in the lab, formulating coatings and adhesives. She is studying chemistry at John Carroll University.
George Mallinos: is our Lab Technician. He supports project work in the lab, formulating coatings and ahesives. He is studying chemical engineering at The University of Akron.
William Rowane: is a part time college student at Lakeland Community College. He is majoring in computer science and has taken chemistry courses. He was brought on board to support our ISO and Quality efforts.
Craig Pastrano: has experience in production and warehouse management. Craig is in charge of drum production and warehousing. He is a graduate of Chardon High School.
The Administration team includes:
Barbara deKrom: is a co-owner of national polymer. In her position as Controller, Barb directs the Accounting and Finance functions for national polymer. She also oversees office activities.
Amanda Markiewicz: is the Office Manager for national polymer. She handles the Purchasing, assists with accounts payable and receivable, coordinates all aspects of shipping and receiving of materials, and is responsible for SDS generation. Mandy supports all the administrative efforts for national polymer.
Dale Smallwood: directs the IT and Marketing functions for national polymer, including website design and maintenance and internet advertising. Dale is a co-owner of national polymer.
